May 1965 The 8th plenary sitting of the U.C.E.C. took place in Rome, from 27 till 31 May. The theme of this sitting was devoted to the research of possibilities of cultural action between the six capitals as communities and urban groups. Concrete actions of cultural assistance, resulting from the studies presented by Amsterdam, Brussels, Luxembourg, Paris and Rome, should be realised during the year 1966. This is how the city of Amsterdam accepted to organise a first conference about urbanism and a dramatic art contest between schools (to replace the idea of an airlift, abandoned for technical reasons). Brussels has, helped by the European communities, elaborated its propositions concerning the possibility of adjusting, in communal education, courses about the six cities. Luxembourg has studied the problem of basic document exchange between the member cities of the union. Paris shall organise a first visit of study groups between capitals. Finally, Rome shall examine the possibility to organise a theatrical festival. It’s also during this plenary sitting that the regulation of interior order was adopted once and for all and that the general secretariat had presented a first brochure of the “activities of the U.C.E.C.” to the six capitals. |
